Cheap Disney World Vacation – Tips from Our Guest Blogger

by admin on February 1, 2010

melissa1We are into part two of the three part series from our guest blogger, Melissa Jennings.  She is the owner of Stockpiling Moms, Guide to Frugal Living.  After a recent visit to Disney World, she has come up with a list of ways to be frugal at Walt Disney World.  These are great tips for any family visiting Disney or Orlando.  Here's Melissa...

As a continuation from my post last week I wanted to share some additional tips for saving money and enjoying your trip to Walt Disney Word:

Tip 6: Buy small Disney souvenirs when they go on clearance at the Disney store, online at the Disney Outlet or at the Dollar Tree and take them with you.  I purchased small stuffed Mickey's for $3.99 at the Disney store and "Tinkerbell" left these for the kids on our first night...along with a little "pixie dust" aka glitter.  I also purchased a few other items that I gave the kids instead of purchasing expensive items at the park.  I gave each of them a budgeted amount of spending money and placed it into an envelope.  They knew that when it was gone it was gone.  Another affordable souvenir is pressed pennies.  They are available everywhere.  Bring a roll of pennies and quarters for lots of inexpensive fun!

Tip 7: Bring wash clothes or bandannas to wet and put on your neck when you get hot at the park.  It really works!  There were several days that I would have had heat stroke without!

Tip 8: Wear comfortable shoes. I brought Crocs for the kids to wear after they played in the splash areas.  I wore Croc flip flops every single day and had NO blisters!

Tip 9: Bring in a small first aid kit with you to the park. They do not give out anything free including band aids…This can be a lifesaver and money saver too!

Tip 10: Pack wet wipes and hand sanitizer, you will need them! Adults too!

Tip 11: Be sure to take advantage of Disney Extra Magic Hours if you are staying at one of the WDW resorts (which I personally suggest).  The morning and evening EMH’s are worth it! Be at rope drop!  You will get more done in that one hour than any other hour at the park.  We planned what we were going to ride at EMH so we didn't waste any of our time.

Tip 12: If you want to see Tinkerbell and the Fairies they are ONLY at Toon Town. Be there at 9:15 to wait for the rope drop at 9:45 the rope and you will be first to see her. There is a 1-2 hour or more wait ALL day long even until park closes.  I suggest taking your breakfast and enjoying it while you wait for the rope drop.  We did this on a EMH morning and it was perfect!

Stay tuned next week for more frugal tips and ideas to make your Disney World vacation the best vacation ever!  For more information about planning a Disney World vacation, visit Destinations in Florida Travel.

Just a comment on Tip 9 – When I was at the world in November of 08 and September of 09 I had to visit the first aid areas in Epcot and MK both. They gladly handed me bandaids and even an ACE bandage when I needed one – for free.

Hi Molly! That is a great point. If you stop by the First Aid Stations at the Disney Theme Parks or Water Parks, you can get a bandaid for free. That is kinda cool that you were also able to get an Ace bandage, too.

I am glad you were able to get a band-aid, I asked a cast member in May 09 and they told me that no they don’t give them for free so this is good to know, however the first aid stations are only in one area. Here is a link to the first aid stations which is good to know, but packing a small first aid kit seems like a better plan with a small child in tow…
